Donor Management with Salesforce: Power of SKU

A SKU (Stock-Keeping Unit) is a unique identifier for each item that can be purchased. Attaching SKUs to items allows organizations to track inventory easily and search for items based on a SKU. This will be helpful to organizations that have a large inventory of products, events, and donation types and need a streamlined way to manage them across multiple payment pages.

For better understanding, here is an example:

For sources: Auction –
                   Events –
                   Donation –
                   Swiper1 –
                   Connect –        

Add the SKUs for the above sources: Auction – Annual –
                                                        Events – Members
                                                        Donation – Web
                                                        Swiper1 – Store
                                                        Connect – Campaign1           

Later we append it further: Auction – Annual – 2016
                                                      Events – Members – Dues
                                                      Donation – Web – 2016
                                                      Swiper1 – Store – Books
                                                      Connect – Campaign1 - PnP  

Here we are just appending “a” name with suffixes that narrow down the same. By seeing this closely, we will come to know that it was started with “Big” ideas and then move to “smaller” ideas.

By seeing the above example, it is very clear that Auction is the category, it is an annual auction and the year which the auction was conducted is 2016.

When it comes to Autoresponder, opportunity naming, campaign etc., SKUs can be filtered based on:

SKU: Blank, Is, Starts with, Ends with, Includes, Any Non-Blank SKU, Any or Blank SKU.

With this, different emails can send for different SKUs.

Eg: - Auction – Annual – 2016: If the SKU is 2016, for all who registered for 2016, a separate email will be sent.

If each item in an auction has a different SKU and the autoresponder is set for each item. At the event, people pay for the items using Swiper1. Immediately upon purchase, they will receive an email with the picture of the item and description, etc.

These are the options in which SKU is used:
  1. C&P Settings > Opportunity > Contact Roles: If the SKU is matched then the Contact ID and Contact Role will be assigned to that opportunity.

  2. C&P Settings > Opportunity > Customize Name: If the SKU is matched then the opportunity will be created with the customized name.

  3. C&P Settings > Opportunity > Record Types: If the SKU is matched then record type will be assigned to that opportunity.

  4. C&P Settings > Opportunity > Primary Campaign Source: If the SKU is matched then the Campaign ID will be assigned to that opportunity.

    NOTE: Primary Campaign Source will be available only when Opportunity Product (C&P Settings > Opportunity) checkbox is disabled.

  5. C&P Settings > Custom Mapping > SKU Map: SKU can be mapped for an account, contact and opportunity. If the SKU is matched then the custom text which is provided will be assigned to the field map.

  6. C&P Settings > Autoresponder > Email > New > Send When: If SKU option is selected then only after meeting the condition, the autoresponder fires an email.

  7. C&P Settings > Analytics > Opportunity Match: Rank weights will be calculated only after opportunity SKU condition is matched.

  8. General Ledger > Allocations: Based on SKU condition, the allocation will be allotted.

  9. Soft Credit > SKU Match: When SKU matches, then the primary contact can give soft credit % and contact role to the secondary contact.
